Roosevelt, NY – The Roosevelt Historical Society joined the national commemoration of America250 by meeting and greeting members of the Roosevelt community on July 15 and July 16, 2026 at Roosevelt High School and Ulysses Byas Elementary School, respectively. The gatherings offered students, families, educators, alumni, and residents an opportunity to connect with the Society, learn more about local history, and celebrate Roosevelt’s place in the American story.
America250 marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, signed in 1776. As communities across the country reflect on the nation’s past and look toward its future, the Roosevelt Historical Society also encourages residents to preserve, share, and celebrate the stories that have shaped Roosevelt and the broader Long Island community.
The Society hopes the gatherings will spark conversations across generations and encourage residents to contribute memories, photographs, documents, and stories that reflect Roosevelt’s unique history.
The Roosevelt Union Free School District’s mission is to educate the whole child and ensure achievement for all, and its vision affirms a community that is empowered, proficient, and globally ready. The Roosevelt Historical Society’s outreach aligns with that spirit by connecting learning, civic pride, and community memory in this year of national reflection.
In addition to the Meet and Greet held at the Roosevelt School’s Campuses in July, members of the Roosevelt Historical Society participated as one of the many vendors at the 12th Annual Unity Festival Car and Bike hosted by the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Our members had a pleasure engaging with residents of the community who attended the event.
